RestylaneRestylane is a newly approved soft tissue filler that is made of an ingredient called Hyaluronic acid, which exists naturally in all living organisms. Since it is such a versatile ingredient, its use in the field of medicine is already widespread. Hyaluronic acid has the ability to bind water in the tissue. However, as the amount of hyaluronic acid decreases with age, less water is bound, making the skin look older and less elastic and resilient. Hyaluronic acid can be found in several places in the body, for example:
There is no antigenicity/immunogenicity (meaning your body does not react against it) associated with the substance and thus the incidence of adverse reactions is very low. So far more than 27 million patients all over the world have been treated with hyaluronic acid based products. How Facial Wrinkles Are ProducedFacial wrinkles are produced by repeated and habitual contraction of the underlying muscles of facial expression. When the facial muscles contract, the muscles shorten without a corresponding shortening of the overlying skin, thereby producing a wrinkle. Other factors that cause aging of the skin are the thickness of the skin and the amount of underlying fat, the water content of the skin, the distribution and ratio of collagen and elastic fibres, and the biochemical changes in the connective tissue interstitial substance. Restylane Treatment Photos![]() Before Restylane Treatment ![]() After Restylane Treatment How Restylane Is UtilizedThe function of restylane is to add volume where it is needed, i.e. where the body's own hyaluronic acid has been depleted or when creating volume in the cheeks, chin and lips. The implant does not swell after injection, but it adds more water as it degrades. The less concentrated the gel becomes, the more water each molecule is able to bind. The result is that the same volume can be maintained with less implant material. Finally the implant is fully degraded and reabsorbed, leaving the tissue without any scarring or implant waste. Restylane products are based on a hyaluronic acid from one single family of bacteria that is harmless to humans and effectively removed once it has produced its material. It stays identical year after year, thus ensuring the safety of the product. As it is free from animal substances and toxins the risk of transmitting diseases from other species is completely eliminated. Furthermore, there is no risk of common allergic reactions from meat, chicken or eggs. As an added safety measure, restylane is also sterilized after final packaging and is therefore absolutely sterile. Restylane to lips and nasolabial folds Long LastingMost patients have the feeling that after 6-12 months they need another correction. With lips most come in for their next treatment at about 6 months. The TreatmentSmoothing lines, wrinkles and folds: Lip SculptingLips can be perfectly sculpted with the Restylane products. Fuller lips, a more pouting look or enhancement of the lip border can all be achieved. The area around the lips may also be treated for an optimal look. Some kind of anesthesia is generally neccessary in connection with lip augmentation. This is achieved most effectively by a nerve block or by local anesthesia.
